Description
TAM89679 - Tamiya - 1/700 Op. Kikusui Box Set of 10 Ships Ltd. Production - Japanese Release - WWHP113443
On 6 April 1945 the battleship Yamato sailed from Tokuyama with a light cruiser and eight destroyers, carrying enough fuel to reach Okinawa but not to come home. The plan was to beach her and fight as a gun battery. American carrier aircraft found the force the following afternoon in the East China Sea, and Yamato, Yahagi and four of the destroyers went down. Fuyuzuki, Suzutsuki, Hatsushimo and Yukikaze picked up survivors and turned back, the last sortie of the Imperial Japanese Navy's surface fleet.
