The Jagdtiger was the heaviest armoured fighting vehicle of the Second World War, weighing over 70 tonnes and mounting the formidable 12.8cm PaK 44 L/55 gun — capable of defeating any Allied armour at extreme range. Based on the Tiger II chassis with an extended hull, it entered service in 1944 with the 653rd and 512th Heavy Anti-Tank Battalions. Early production vehicles are distinguished by the Henschel-type suspension with nine paired road wheels per side. Fewer than 90 were built before the war's end.
