The Char B1 bis was France's heavy battle tank at the outbreak of WWII, fielding a hull-mounted 75mm gun for fortifications and a turret-mounted 47mm gun for armour, behind some of the thickest armour of any 1940 tank. Well protected but slow, with a one-man turret and high fuel consumption, individual B1 bis crews fought hard during the Battle of France before the type was overwhelmed by German combined-arms tactics. Captured examples served the Wehrmacht as the Panzerkampfwagen B2. It is a distinctive and popular early-war French subject.

This is a 1/35 scale injection-moulded plastic kit, Tamiya Military Miniature Series No. 282. The kit was developed with the support of the Musée des Blindés, Saumur.
