The jerrycan was one of the most important logistical items of World War II, originally developed by Germany as a robust 20-litre portable fuel container that Allied forces quickly copied after capturing examples in North Africa. Both sides used them extensively to keep tanks, trucks, and aircraft fuelled across every theatre. Allied cans were typically painted olive drab, while German examples appeared in field grey, dark grey, or dark yellow.
