The Agano was the lead ship of her class of light cruisers, designed by the Imperial Japanese Navy as fast flotilla leaders for destroyer squadrons. Completed in October 1942, she served in the Pacific before being torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Skate off Truk in February 1944. The Agano-class represented the IJN's final new-build light cruiser design of the war.
