The 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera arrived in 1997 and was the most radical change in the 911’s history. After more than 30 years of air-cooled engines, Porsche gave the 911 a water-cooled 3.4-litre flat-six producing about 300 hp. It also had an all-new, larger body with a more aerodynamic shape, a roomier and more modern interior, and the “fried egg” headlights it shared with the Boxster. Purists debated the changes, but the 996 became one of the best-selling 911s and laid the foundation for every 911 since. This Tamiya kit builds the 996 Carrera coupe, shown on the box in Arctic Silver and Guards Red.
