Subaru built the Alcyone, sold in North America as the XT, as a halo car for a company better known for practical four-wheel-drive wagons. Launched in 1985, it wrapped a turbocharged 1781cc flat-four and full-time four-wheel drive in an aggressively wedged body with a claimed drag coefficient of 0.29, pop-up headlights, a single-spoke steering wheel and a cockpit full of aircraft-inspired switchgear. Fuji Heavy Industries' aviation background was very much the point. This is Sports Car Series No. 55.
