Description
5038 - Rye Field Model - 1/35 British Sherman VC Firefly - WWWEB10107318
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The Firefly was Britain's answer to the problem that no Allied medium tank could reliably kill a Panther or Tiger at range. The 17-pounder anti-tank gun was squeezed into a standard Sherman turret by rotating the breech ninety degrees and cutting a hatch into the rear bustle for a new radio box, and the hull gunner's position was given over to ammunition stowage. The VC was the version based on the long M4A4 hull with its Chrysler multibank engine, and roughly 2,000 Fireflies of all marks were converted. From Normandy onward they were typically issued one per troop, the single tank the Germans learned to shoot at first.
