Description
ROD307 - Roden 1/144 Douglas VC-118 'The Independence' - WWWEB10102562
Preowned, Original seal, Mint
The Douglas DC-6 was developed from the wartime C-54, and 166 military examples were built for the US Air Force and Navy as the C-118 and R6D. The twenty ninth C-118 went to the presidential fleet, where it became The Independence, Harry Truman's aircraft and the successor to Roosevelt's Sacred Cow. It carried the most striking scheme any presidential aircraft has worn, a bald eagle's head painted across the nose with wings and feathering sweeping back along the fuselage in blue and gold, and it survives today at the National Museum of the USAF. This is Roden's 1/144 kit of the aircraft as it appeared in the late 1940s.
