The Vought OS2U Kingfisher was the U.S. Navy's primary shipboard observation floatplane of the Second World War, catapult-launched from battleships and cruisers to conduct artillery spotting, reconnaissance, and search-and-rescue missions. The OS-2U-3 was the most produced variant, powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior engine and fitted with updated armament and self-sealing fuel tanks. Kingfishers served across all major Pacific and Atlantic theatres, with the type famously credited with rescuing downed aircrew, including aviator Eddie Rickenbacker after his 1942 raft survival ordeal. 1967 Lindberg tooling, reboxed by Revell.
