PMM001 - PM Model 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire Vb - WWHP113849
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The Spitfire Mk.V was the most-produced Spitfire variant. It entered service in 1941 with the Merlin 45 engine, and the Vb was armed with two 20 mm Hispano cannon and four .303 Browning machine guns. For service in the deserts of North Africa and the Mediterranean, the “Tropical” version had a large Vokes sand filter under the nose to protect the engine from dust. In 1943 Britain supplied Spitfire Vbs to neutral Turkey. In Turkish Air Force service they flew alongside Focke-Wulf Fw 190s bought from Germany, which made Turkey one of the few air forces to operate both. This vintage PM Model kit, made in Turkey, builds a Spitfire Vb Tropical in either Turkish Air Force or RAF desert markings.
