Description
PAV72009 - Pavla 1/72 Blackburn Roc Mk.1 - WWWEB10115043
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Blackburn Roc was designed in the late 1930s as a turret fighter for the Fleet Air Arm, the naval equivalent of the RAF’s Boulton Paul Defiant. It was developed from the Skua dive bomber and carried all four of its .303 machine guns in a power-operated dorsal turret behind the pilot. The idea was that the Roc would fly alongside enemy bombers and attack them from the side. The extra weight of the turret, however, made it slower than the Skua it was based on. Rocs flew from Royal Naval Air Stations during the Norwegian campaign and over Dunkirk in 1940. They were soon withdrawn from front-line service and finished their careers as trainers and target tugs. This limited-edition Pavla kit includes markings for three Fleet Air Arm aircraft.
