The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was the most-produced American fighter of World War II, with over 15,000 built. Powered by the massive Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial, the "Jug" was renowned for its rugged construction and ability to absorb punishment. The razorback variant — with its tall fuselage spine and framed canopy — served with the USAAF from 1943, primarily in the European Theatre as a bomber escort before transitioning to ground attack duties. Otaki's 1/48 kit, first tooled in 1976, was well regarded for its engraved panel lines and detailed cockpit at a time when most manufacturers hadn't yet adopted either feature.
