The Convair F-106 Delta Dart was the US Air Force's primary all-weather interceptor from 1959 into the 1980s, developed from the F-102 as part of the continental air defence network. Its tailless delta layout and J75 engine gave it a top speed above Mach 2, and its armament was carried internally in a ventral weapons bay: four Falcon air intercept missiles plus a single nuclear-tipped Genie rocket.
