The Grumman F9F Panther was one of the US Navy's first successful carrier-based jet fighters, entering service in 1949. It became the Navy and Marine Corps' primary jet fighter-bomber of the Korean War, flying thousands of ground-attack and combat air patrol sorties from carriers off the peninsula. Powered by a single Pratt & Whitney J48, the straight-winged Panther was rugged and dependable, and notably served with the Navy's Blue Angels demonstration team.
