By 1973, Porsche’s turbocharged 917s ruled the Can-Am series. Penske’s new 917/30 took the title, and several 917/10s went to privateer teams. One of them was Brumos Porsche, the Jacksonville, Florida dealership team, whose white cars with red and blue stripes became some of the best-known liveries in American racing. Hurley Haywood drove the Brumos 917/10 at Mid-Ohio that year in the colours of the U.S. Navy, which sponsored the car. Haywood went on to win Le Mans five times and the Daytona 24 Hours five times.
