The MD-80 was the stretched, quieter development of the DC-9, given a longer fuselage and refanned JT8D engines to carry more passengers on short and medium routes. TWA was among its largest operators and flew the type heavily through its St. Louis hub, the aircraft becoming a mainstay of the airline's fleet through the 1980s and 1990s until the American Airlines takeover in 2001. The kit depicts the later Trans World scheme with the red cheatline and the classic TWA tail.
