Preowned, Resealed, some parts off sprue, Box worn
The North American P-51 Mustang began as a British order in 1940. It became one of the great fighters of the Second World War once it was fitted with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, built under licence in the U.S. by Packard. The P-51D added a bubble canopy for all-round visibility and six .50 calibre machine guns. Its long range let it escort American bombers all the way to Berlin and back. The RAF also flew the type, calling it the Mustang IV. This vintage Matchbox “2 Colour Kit” builds either F/Lt A. S. Doley’s RAF No. 19 Squadron Mustang “Dooleybird”, KM272, from Molesworth in August 1945, or a P-51D of the USAAF 485th Fighter Squadron, 370th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force.
