Description
MAT40402 - Matchbox 1/72 Vickers Wellington Mk.X/Mk.XIV - WWHP113847
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Vickers Wellington first flew on June 15, 1936. It was designed by Barnes Wallis using his geodetic “basket-weave” construction, which made it light, strong and able to absorb remarkable battle damage. It became the backbone of RAF Bomber Command in the early years of the Second World War, and 11,461 had been built when production ended in 1945. The Mk.X was the most-produced version, powered by two 1,675 hp Bristol Hercules VI or XVI engines with a top speed of 402 km/h. Many were flown by Polish, Canadian and other Commonwealth squadrons. The Mk.XIV was a Coastal Command maritime patrol version with Hercules XVII engines, ASV radar and a Leigh Light for hunting U-boats at night. This Matchbox kit, a 1990s Revell-era reissue, builds either version, with markings for three aircraft, including the Polish No. 300 Squadron Mk.X shown on the box art.
