Description
MAC72033 - Mac Distribution 1/72 LFG Roland D Vla - WWHP111456
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The LFG Roland D.VI was a late-war German fighter developed from Roland's distinctive Klinkerrumpf (clinker-built) fuselage construction — overlapping spruce strips glued and nailed to longerons and formers — which gave good structural strength at reduced weight. The D.VIa, powered by the 160hp Mercedes D.III engine, competed at the Adlershof fighter trials in early 1918 but was found inferior to the Fokker D.VII in climb performance. Ordered in limited numbers, it reached the front in mid-May 1918 and served as a second-line filler type, never achieving the prominence of its contemporaries. Its elegant lines have made it a favourite subject among WWI biplane modellers despite its modest operational record.
