The 1964 Plymouth Belvedere was part of Plymouth's controversial "downsized" full-size lineup introduced for 1962, featuring more compact dimensions than its competitors. While the smaller body hurt showroom sales, the lightweight platform proved extremely effective in motorsport — big-block 426 Wedge and Hemi-equipped Belvederes dominated NASCAR and drag racing that season.
