The Ford 427 SOHC, widely known as the "Cammer," was one of the most powerful and technically ambitious American V8 engines ever produced, developed by Ford in 1964 as a direct response to Chrysler's 426 Hemi. Featuring a single overhead camshaft on each bank of the 427 cubic inch V8, the engine produced over 600 hp in race tune and dominated NASCAR and drag racing wherever it was permitted to compete. The Cammer was ultimately banned from NASCAR before it could race, but became legendary in drag racing and remains one of the most sought-after engines among Ford collectors and enthusiasts.
