Ford's 427 SOHC -- nicknamed the "Cammer" -- was developed in 1964 for NASCAR competition, featuring a single overhead camshaft per cylinder bank at a time when overhead cam engines were virtually unheard of in American racing. The engine produced upwards of 600 horsepower in race trim and went on to legendary status in drag racing, powering Mustangs and Galaxies on strips across North America. Ford never offered it as a production street engine, making it one of the most celebrated race-only powerplants in American automotive history.
