The MiG-21MF was the third-generation Fishbed, entering production in 1970 with the more powerful Tumansky R-13-300 engine, an internal GSh-23L 23mm cannon and four underwing pylons. NATO gave it the reporting name Fishbed-J. It became the standard export fighter of the Warsaw Pact and was flown in large numbers by Czechoslovakia, Poland, East Germany, Iraq and many other air forces, with some examples passing into Luftwaffe service after German reunification.
