The Dornier Do 24 was designed before the Second World War for the Netherlands Naval Aviation Service and built under licence in Holland. When Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940 it captured both completed aircraft and the production line, and the Luftwaffe pressed the type into service with its Seenotdienst air-sea rescue units. The Do 24T was the German production version, powered by three BMW Bramo 323R-2 radials.
