Description
ITA1142 - Italeri - 1/72 B-58 Hustler - WWHP113445
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The B-58 was the first operational bomber capable of sustained Mach 2, a delta-winged machine built largely of honeycomb sandwich panels and crewed by three men in separate tandem cockpits. Its nuclear payload and much of its fuel rode in a jettisonable underfuselage pod rather than an internal bay. Entering Strategic Air Command service in 1960, it set an armful of speed and distance records, including a Tokyo to London run in 1962, but its short range, high accident rate and enormous operating cost saw the whole fleet retired by January 1970 after only 116 were built.
In the box
