Polikarpov's I-16 was the first cantilever monoplane fighter with retractable undercarriage to reach squadron service anywhere, and it carried the Soviet fighter force from Spain through to the German invasion. The Type 24 was a late production version with the M-63 engine and strengthened wings.

This is ICM kit 72071 in 1/72. White styrene on a single parts tree with a small clear windscreen, a detailed radial engine, and a basic cockpit. Decals cover White 11 flown by Boris Safonov of 72 SAP, Northern Fleet Air Force, summer 1941, with the "За Сталина!" and "Смерть фашистам!" slogans.
