The Jaguar began in the mid sixties as a joint Breguet and BAC advanced trainer, then grew into one of the best low level strike aircraft of the Cold War. Twin Adour turbofans, a rugged undercarriage and a navigation and attack system built for hugging the ground gave RAF Jaguars a role blasting through European weather at treetop height. The GR Mk. 1A upgrade brought improved navigation and countermeasures, and the type flew combat missions over Iraq in 1991 and the Balkans before retiring in 2007.
