HOB1687 - Hobbycraft - 1/32 Spad XIII 'Aces' - WWHP113728
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The SPAD XIII was France’s answer to the faster German fighters of 1917. Louis Béchereau designed it as a heavier, more powerful version of the SPAD VII. It had a geared Hispano-Suiza V8 engine and twin Vickers machine guns, which made it one of the fastest and toughest fighters of the war. Nearly 8,500 were built, and aces such as Georges Guynemer, René Fonck, Francesco Baracca and Frank Luke flew it. It was also standard equipment in the U.S. Air Service, where Eddie Rickenbacker of the 94th Aero Squadron, America’s top ace, flew a SPAD XIII marked with the big “1” and the squadron’s “Hat in the Ring” insignia.
