Arromanches was laid down at Vickers-Armstrong in June 1942 and completed in December 1944 as the Royal Navy light fleet carrier HMS Colossus. In 1946 Britain lent her to France, and she was renamed Arromanches after the D-Day landing beach. France later bought her outright. Between 1948 and 1954 she made four deployments to Indochina, where her Hellcats, Helldivers and other aircraft flew in support of the French expeditionary corps. She went on to serve in the 1956 Suez Crisis, then as an anti-submarine and helicopter carrier and later as a training carrier, until she was retired in 1974. This vintage Heller kit, made in France, builds Arromanches on her return from Indochina in September 1954, with a selection of her aircraft on deck.
