Description
HOBHC1651 - Hobbycraft 1/48 Avro CF-105 Arrow - WWWEB10113439
Preowned, Original seal, Mint
The Arrow is Canada's great aviation what if. Designed at Malton for the RCAF as a two seat, twin engine, high altitude interceptor to meet Soviet bombers over the Arctic, RL-201 rolled out on 4 October 1957, the same day Sputnik launched, and flew the following March. Five airframes flew on interim Pratt & Whitney J75s while Orenda's Iroquois engines were still in development. On 20 February 1959 the government cancelled the programme, and the airframes, jigs and tooling were cut up. Many of the engineers left for the United States, a number of them ending up on Apollo.
Hobbycraft tooled this kit in 1987 and it remains one of the few 1/48 Arrows available. Detail is fairly basic by current standards and it rewards some scratch work, but the shape is right and it builds into an impressively large model. Made in South Korea.
