HBB80147 - Hobbyboss - 1/35 Flakpanzer Ia w/Ammo Trailer
The Flakpanzer I was an early German attempt to create a mobile anti-aircraft platform during the Second World War. Built on the chassis of the Panzer I Ausf. A, it replaced the original turret with a 2 cm FlaK 38 autocannon, allowing it to provide short-range air defence for advancing Panzer units. Introduced in 1941, it was a stopgap solution driven by the Luftwaffe’s and Heer’s need for mobile flak support during fast-moving operations. Although it offered a high rate of fire and could also be used effectively against light ground targets, the vehicle suffered from very thin armor, poor protection for the crew, and limited stability when firing. Only a small number were produced, and the type saw combat mainly on the Eastern Front before being withdrawn after heavy losses. The accompanying ammunition trailer (Sonderanhänger 51) carried extra rounds and spare barrels, extending its combat endurance in the field.
This is HobbyBoss kit No. 80147, a 1/35 scale model of the German Flakpanzer I with ammo trailer. The kit depicts the converted Panzer I chassis with its open fighting platform and mounted 2 cm FlaK 38 gun, along with the towed ammunition trailer used in operational deployments. It includes finely molded exterior detail, individual track links, a photo-etched fret for finer components, and the separate trailer assembly that adds realism and diorama potential. The kit is designed to represent the early-war appearance of this improvised anti-aircraft vehicle and is typical of HobbyBoss’s detailed but moderately complex WWII armor offerings.
