HAS20636 - Hasegawa 1/24 Subaru Legacy RS 1990 Rally New Zealand
Subaru entered its first Prodrive-developed car, the Group A Legacy RS, in the 1990 World Rally Championship season, marking a significant step in the brand's evolution from a privateer competitor to a factory-backed rally programme. The Legacy RS debuted at the 1990 Safari Rally, with Markku Alen as the leading STI works driver, joined by a number of regional entries including New Zealand's Peter "Possum" Bourne. At Rally New Zealand later that season, Bourne campaigned the Castrol-liveried Legacy RS to a fifth-place finish with co-driver Rodger Freeth, a result that reflected his deep familiarity with New Zealand stages and his longstanding loyalty to the Subaru brand, which stretched back to 1983. The Legacy RS went on to compete through the 1993 season, scoring one WRC victory and five podiums before being replaced by the Impreza 555.
This 2023 limited edition kit from Hasegawa recreates the Castrol-sponsored Legacy RS in the livery run at the 1990 Rally New Zealand, with white-moulded body parts and decals for both entered cars. Note: the wheel shape included in the kit differs from those fitted to the actual competition vehicle.
