The A6M3 Type 22 introduced a more powerful Sakae 21 engine and redesigned folding wingtips over earlier Zero variants, entering service in 1942. The 201st Naval Flying Group flew Type 22s from Rabaul during the attritional air campaign over the Solomon Islands in 1943. This limited edition release pairs Hasegawa's established 1/48 A6M3 Type 22 tooling with a dedicated decal sheet covering three aircraft from the 201st and 202nd Naval Flying Groups.
