In 1941 the Imperial Japanese Army acquired a small number of Bf 109Es from Germany for evaluation, testing them at Kakamigahara Airfield against domestic types including the Ki-43 Hayabusa. The trials provided useful performance data but led to no production order, leaving the handful of evaluation airframes as one of the more obscure episodes of Axis technical exchange. This 2014 limited edition rebox pairs Hasegawa's established 1/48 Bf 109E tooling with a dedicated decal sheet and photoetched fret for the single IJA marking option.
