The Grumman E-2 Hawkeye is a carrier-based airborne early warning aircraft developed for the US Navy, entering service in 1964. Distinguished by its large rotodome radar housing above the fuselage and twin turboprop engines, the Hawkeye became the fleet's primary AEW platform throughout the Cold War and beyond. The E-2A was the initial production variant; later upgrades to the E-2B and E-2C progressively improved its radar and mission systems.
