The Maultier (Mule) halftrack emerged in 1941 as a solution to the Eastern Front's devastating mud conditions, which were defeating standard wheeled trucks. Rear axles from Opel Blitz and Ford cargo trucks were replaced with track assemblies from retired Panzer I light tanks, producing a capable hybrid with roughly 2-tonne payload. Among the variants built was a dedicated ambulance body for battlefield casualty evacuation — a subject Dragon was first to offer in injection-moulded plastic.
