The Sd.Kfz.138/1 Geschutzwagen 38 H was a German self-propelled infantry gun built on the captured Czech Praga 38(t) tank chassis, mounting the heavy 15cm s.IG.33/1 infantry howitzer in an open-topped armoured superstructure. Developed from 1942 to provide close fire support directly to front-line infantry, it was produced in small numbers and saw service on both the Eastern and Western fronts. The combination of the reliable Czech chassis and a powerful direct-support howitzer made it a practical if cramped solution to the Wehrmacht's need for mobile heavy infantry fire support.
