The Tiger I (Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. E) was Germany's famous heavy tank of the Second World War and the first to mount the high-velocity 8.8cm KwK 36 gun, combining heavy armour with a weapon that could destroy Allied tanks at long range. Roughly 1,347 were built between 1942 and 1944, when production gave way to the Tiger II. Late-production Tigers, built from early 1944, are most easily recognised by their all-steel resilient road wheels and the single-hole mantlet for the monocular gunsight. This kit models that late variant with factory-style Zimmerit, the anti-magnetic-mine paste coating applied to German vehicles from 1943 into 1944.
