The Vultee V-1A was an American single-engine commercial transport of the mid-1930s, operated by several airlines before a number of examples were acquired by Spain just prior to and during the Civil War. Both the Nationalist and Republican forces pressed V-1As into military service as light transport and liaison aircraft, while others continued operating with LAPE (Líneas Aéreas Postales Españolas), Spain's national postal airline. It was an unusual subject to see in combat service, reflecting the improvised nature of both sides' air arms in the early months of the conflict.
