Citadel Layer Paints — Warhammer Colour

Complete colour listing · 12ml water-based acrylic · Highlights & mid-tones for Warhammer miniatures · Now branded Warhammer Colour

The largest Citadel range — highlights and colour progression

Citadel Layer paints are semi-opaque and formulated for building colour in stages on top of a Base coat and Shade. They are used to highlight raised surfaces — applied progressively lighter toward the edges and highest points of a model to create depth and visual interest. With 93 colours, the Layer range is the largest in the Citadel system, providing complete colour progressions for virtually every Warhammer faction: multiple blues for Ultramarines, multiple greens for Ork skin, full metallics for gold, silver, and bronze.

All Layer paints are 12ml in a flip-top pot. Because they are semi-opaque, they blend more easily than Base paints and produce smoother transitions — particularly important for skin, armour panels, and gradient work. Click any SKU to check availability and add to basket.

Format 12ml flip-top pot

Sits between the Base bronzes and the brighter Brass Scorpion Layer.
CIT22-65
Brass Scorpion
Named for the Brass Scorpion — a Chaos Khorne Daemon Engine. Bright warm brass. The final highlight in bronze and brass progressions — applied to the sharpest edges of Khorne daemon engine components, Duardin rune-inscribed metalwork, Adeptus Mechanicus servo-skull trim, and any bright brass detail requiring a gleaming, polished finish.
CIT22-63
Hashut Copper
Named for Hashut — the Father of Darkness, god of the Chaos Dwarf (Duardin) followers. Warm copper tone. Mid-highlight for copper pipes, boiler components, Adeptus Mechanicus and Kharadron Overlords copper tubing, and any warmly toned bronze/copper surface. Sits between the darker Base bronzes and the brighter Brass Scorpion for a traditional warm copper mid-tone.
CIT22-74
Fulgurite Copper
Named for the Fulgurite — the Adeptus Mechanicus warrior who channels lightning. Bright highlight copper. The final highlight for polished copper components on Adeptus Mechanicus models, Kharadron Overlords aether-copper pipes, and Steam-punk Age of Sigmar machinery. Applied to the brightest raised edges for a gleaming, freshly-polished copper finish.
CIT22-73
Skullcrusher Brass
Named for the Skullcrushers — the Khorne Bloodbound cavalry on Juggernauts. Bright warm brass. Used for Juggernauts and Khorne Daemon Engine brass/iron details, Kharadron Overlord aether-gold trim, and any armour with large engraved brass surfaces needing a bright highlight. Slightly warmer than Liberator Gold — better for brass effects than the colder Stormcast golden tones.
CIT22-89
Castellax Bronze
Named for the Castellax — the Adeptus Mechanicus battle-automata. Muted, desaturated bronze. Used for ancient, weathered bronze on automata, Necron tomb guardian constructs, Chaos Daemon engine components, and any mechanical bronze with an aged, dull look rather than a fresh polish. Cooler and less vibrant than Sycorax Bronze or Brass Scorpion — for deliberately tarnished effects.
CIT22-94
Canoptek Alloy
Named for the Canoptek — the autonomous repair constructs of the Necron Tomb Worlds. Pale silver with a faint greenish cast. Specifically designed for Necron metallic surfaces — provides the eerie, otherworldly metal finish of Necron living metal when applied as a layer over Leadbelcher or Grey Knights Steel. Also used for Adeptus Mechanicus bionic highlight with a slightly alien quality.
