The El Camino SS of the mid 1980s was not a factory Chevrolet product at all. Choo Choo Customs of Chattanooga, Tennessee took finished El Caminos and grafted on the aero nose from the Monte Carlo SS, narrowed slightly to fit, then added ground effects side pipes and SS graphics. Roughly 15,000 were converted before production ended in 1987, which is a large number for an aftermarket job and a fair measure of how well the look worked. There was even an IROC-S version built for the 1986 Indianapolis 500 that ran strobe lights and a roll bar, so the last of the front engine rear drive El Caminos went out with more of a story than most people remember.
