With the XP-59A proving the jet concept, Bell built 50 production Airacomets, 20 P-59As and 30 P-59Bs with more powerful engines and extra fuel, armed with a 37 mm cannon and three .50 calibre machine guns. Disappointing performance kept them out of combat, but the 412th Fighter Group used them to give USAAF pilots their first taste of jet flying, and a few later served as drone control aircraft and with the US Navy for testing. Amodel's limited edition kit covers the production versions, complete with underwing drop tanks and the late-war natural and painted finishes.
