The Douglas C-47 Skytrain was the military transport version of the DC-3 airliner and one of the most important aircraft of the Second World War. General Eisenhower cited it as one of four weapons that proved decisive to Allied victory, and on D-Day alone C-47s delivered thousands of paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions into Normandy ahead of the beach landings. The type continued in service long after the war in military and civilian roles worldwide.
