Description
AIRA03001V - Airfix - 1/72 De Havilland Heron Mk.II - WWHP113279
Preowned, Original seal, Box worn
The de Havilland DH.114 Heron grew out of the success of the twin engined Dove, stretching the airframe and adding a second pair of Gipsy Queen engines to create a four engined feederliner that could carry 17 passengers into short and rough airfields. First flown in May 1950, it found work with regional and colonial operators around the world where reliability mattered more than speed. The Mk.II brought a retractable undercarriage in place of the original fixed gear, cutting drag and improving cruise performance. Only around 150 Herons were built, though the type also served with the RAF and Royal Navy, and the Jersey Airlines machines became a familiar sight on Channel Islands routes.
