The Spitfire PR.XIX was the ultimate photographic reconnaissance development of the type, and arguably the top end of Spitfire evolution altogether. Unarmed and carrying cameras in place of guns, it flew at 370 mph at 40,000 feet with a range of 1,500 miles, high and fast enough that interception was effectively impossible for most contemporary fighters. Griffon powered with a five-blade propeller and a pressurised cockpit, the PR.XIX served the RAF into the 1950s and was the last Spitfire variant in operational RAF service. This Airfix 1/72 kit is from the 2009 new tooling and covers an RAF Far East aircraft and a Swedish Air Force S 31.
