Description

AIR589 - Airfix 1/72 Heinkel HE 177 - WWWEB10109887

Preowned, Resealed, Mint

The Heinkel He 177 Greif ("Griffon") was Germany's only operational long-range heavy bomber of the Second World War, and one of its most troubled aircraft programmes. Its defining feature was the use of two pairs of coupled engines — each pair driving a single propeller — intended to reduce drag, but the arrangement caused persistent overheating and fires that earned the aircraft the grim nickname Fliegendes Reichsfeuerzeug ("Reich's flying lighter"). Despite chronic unreliability, the He 177 saw operational service on the Eastern Front and in anti-shipping roles over the Atlantic, carrying the Henschel Hs 293 air-to-surface missile. Airfix first tooled this kit in 1967 — at 160 parts it was one of the most ambitious kits the company had produced at that time, and remains the most accessible 1/72 scale injection-moulded He 177.

Box Contents:

  • Injection-moulded plastic sprues — 160 parts
  • Clear sprue (cockpit and turret glazing)
  • Henschel Hs 293 rocket-propelled anti-shipping missiles
  • Waterslide decal sheet — Luftwaffe markings including KG 100 "Helga" scheme (RLM 76/75 upper surfaces, RLM 22 black undersides)
  • Instruction sheet

Series 5 | Vintage tooling (1967). Paint and cement required, not included.
