Description

AIR08004 - Airfix 1/72 Lancaster Dambuster - PREOWNED10117448

Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn

On the night of 16/17 May 1943, nineteen specially modified Lancasters of 617 Squadron left RAF Scampton for the dams of the Ruhr. The B.III (Special) had its bomb bay doors and mid-upper turret removed to carry Barnes Wallis's Upkeep mine slung between two caliper arms, spun up to 500 rpm and released at 60 feet from precisely 232 mph. Eight aircraft failed to return, the Möhne and Eder were breached, and Guy Gibson was awarded the Victoria Cross. This is the Series 8 boxing of Airfix's earlier 1/72 Lancaster tooling, converted to Operation Chastise configuration.

  • 1/72 scale injection moulded plastic kit, Series 8
  • Light grey styrene frames plus a clear frame for the canopy, turret glazing and nose blister
  • Raised panel line detail, in keeping with the age of the tooling
  • Upkeep mine and side caliper arms included, with the cut-away bomb bay and deleted mid-upper turret specific to the B.III (Special)
  • Four-blade propellers, positionable undercarriage and Frazer-Nash nose and tail turrets
  • Waterslide decal sheet for two 617 Squadron aircraft: codes AJ-G with serial ED932, the machine flown by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, and codes AJ-S with serial ED912
  • Decals also include roundels, fin flashes, walkway lines, servicing stencils and instrument panel
  • Multilingual instruction sheet with assembly diagrams, historical notes and a painting and decal placement guide
  • Finished model has a 432 mm wingspan
