Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The SAAB 37 Viggen ("Thunderbolt") was the centrepiece of Sweden's Cold War air defence strategy, entering service with the Flygvapnet in 1971. Designed around a unique double-delta tandem canard configuration, it was the first production aircraft to use a thrust-reverser — critical for operations from Sweden's dispersed base network of public roads. The AJ-37 was the primary attack variant, optimised for low-level strike against surface targets. Successive variants covered interception (JA-37), maritime reconnaissance (SF/SH-37), and two-seat training (SK-37). The Viggen's four-colour splinter camouflage — applied from 1974 — became one of the most distinctive aircraft paint schemes of the era. Airfix first tooled this kit in 1971; it was one of the earliest injection-moulded Viggens in 1/72 and remained in production across multiple reboxings.
