AIR02202 - Airfix 1/600 The Rommel, West German Naval Destroyer - WWHP113822
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
Rommel (D187) was one of three Lütjens-class guided missile destroyers built for the West German Navy, alongside Lütjens (D185) and Mölders (D186). The class was a modified version of the U.S. Navy’s Charles F. Adams-class destroyer, built at Bath Iron Works in Maine with German radio, navigation and sonar equipment. Rommel was commissioned in May 1970. She was armed with the Tartar surface-to-air missile system, two fully automatic 12.7 cm guns, an ASROC anti-submarine rocket launcher and torpedoes. High-pressure steam turbines gave her a top speed of 34 knots. Rommel served through the Cold War until she was decommissioned in 1998. This Airfix kit, made in England, includes hull numbers for all three ships of the class.
